Three Collaborative Student Videos from Summer 2020
We’re thrilled to be sharing the three videos born out of our Summer Term project classes. They include our virtual choir singing Pink’s What About Us, a dance and percussion collaboration, and a multimedia spectacle combining animation, poetic storytelling, voice-actors, and original music. These videos were premiered at our Video Release Party in September, and we’re excited to be sharing them here for anyone to watch.
First up: What About Us Performed by PHAME artists and special guests
This summer’s Choir students chose Pink’s impassioned anthem “What About Us” for its urgent and timely lyrics. The song asks the question: when will those of us who have been left out finally have our voices heard? Students worked together to rehearse the song—while also learning to record and share videos of their individual performances. Special guest musicians from the PHAME community joined in to create a finished video that blends personal artistes with the luster that is found in vocal harmony.
Next: Dance and Percussion (and a little boogie woogie)
PHAME drummers and dancers worked collaboratively this summer to create this fun and playful mashup that spotlights the joy of taking your art outside.
As winter draws nearer, this video has us dreaming of blue skies, short sleeves, and, well, boogie woogie woogie. It’s electric!
Last but not least: Lost in the Woods—A PHAME Animated Adventure
By far the most ambitious of this summer’s video projects, Lost in the Woods combines drawing, poetic storytelling, voice acting, and original music to create an animated feature like nothing PHAME has made before.
Rather than begin with a finished story, PHAME artists were tasked with the challenge of creating all aspects of the video simultaneously. That meant that the animators were creating their initial sketches as the story was still being drafted, and the music was reacting to—and propelling—the direction of the story as it was developed.
This final video is a feat of communication and collaboration, and spotlights PHAME artists’ creativity, perseverance, and dedication to craft.
