We believe that art is for everyone.
We believe that art is for everyone.
PHAME is a fine and performing arts academy serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Offering art classes and workshops in a wide range of disciplines, as well as a robust performance program, PHAME empowers students to learn new skills, take artistic risks, and build lasting relationships with people who share their experience of having a disability.
Located in Portland’s Sullivan’s Gulch neighborhood, and also offering robust online programming, PHAME creates accessible pathways for students to engage, grow, and thrive in the arts—wherever they are.
PHAME is built upon the belief that art is for everyone, and that our community is stronger when it champions opportunities for all. With that in mind, PHAME brings passion, joy, and rigor to arts education and performance.
School
We offer ten-week terms of arts-based classes each fall, winter, and spring, a summer program that varies from year to year, one-off workshops, and social events.
Summer Projects
Every few years we mount a major theatrical production. Recent projects have included Stop Making Sense (2023), The Poet’s Shadow (2019), and in a single breath (2017).
Performance
We put students in front of audiences across Portland and beyond! Our auditioned ensembles include a comedy troupe, a mixed ensemble, and a rock ensemble.
Community
PHAME is a community where people with intellectual and developmental disabilities build meaningful, lasting relationships with other people who share their experience of disability.
Become a Student
The first step to becoming a student is to schedule an interview with a member of our student engagement team.
